The Short Answer
Stay within two or three blocks of the basilica if seeing it at opening time, or lit up at night from a rooftop, matters most. Our pick is the Sercotel Rosellón, whose terrace faces the towers about 200 meters away.
It is a good base for a second visit, a short stay built around Gaudí, or families who want an apartment with a kitchen for less than in the old town. For a first visit with only a few days, most people are happier in the Eixample near Passeig de Gràcia or in the Gothic Quarter, and come here by metro. There are no luxury hotels right by the basilica; for a splurge, stay by La Pedrera and ride metro L5 two stops.
The Streets Around Sagrada Família Compared
| Area | Best for | Downsides |
|---|---|---|
| Right by the basilica (Mallorca, Rosselló, Còrsega) | Views, early entry | Tour groups and coaches by day |
| Passatge Gaiolà and side streets | Quiet nights, apartments | Few restaurants on the doorstep |
| Avinguda de Gaudí toward Sant Pau | Terrace cafés, the Sant Pau site | Farther from the center |
| Lower streets (Diputació, Aragó) | Budgets, walking toward Passeig de Gràcia | Busy traffic on Aragó |
