The Short Answer

Stay in central Poble Sec, around Carrer de Blai and Carrer de Margarit, for tapas bars on your doorstep and a 15–20 minute walk to the bottom of La Rambla. Our pick is Hotel Brummell, a small design hotel with a pool near the foot of Montjuïc.

Stay on Montjuïc itself, at the Hotel Miramar, for gardens, a spa and sea views, accepting a 15–20 minute walk down to the metro. Stay by Plaça d'Espanya for trade fairs, the airport buses and fast metro links, or on Avinguda del Paral·lel for theaters and a quick walk to the port. Poble Sec suits food lovers, repeat visitors and travelers on a budget; it is also a handy base for ferry and cruise passengers.

What to Know Before You Book

  • Carrer de Blai gets busy. The pintxos bars on this pedestrian street fill up in the evening, especially on weekends. Rooms a street or two away are quieter.
  • The hill is real. Streets get steeper the higher you go, and upper Poble Sec has long staircases. Walking up to the MNAC from upper Poble Sec takes about 20 minutes, uphill.
  • Trade fairs fill Plaça d'Espanya. The Fira de Barcelona grounds are on the square, and Mobile World Congress runs from 1 to 4 March 2027 at Fira Gran Via, on metro L9 Sud (Fira station). Book early for those weeks.
  • It is a residential area. Poble Sec is generally relaxed and safe. Take normal care on Paral·lel and in the metro, as anywhere in the center.

Getting Around Poble Sec

  • On foot: Carrer de Blai to Drassanes, at the bottom of La Rambla, takes 15–20 minutes. El Raval and Sant Antoni market are just across Paral·lel.
  • Metro: Paral·lel (L2, L3), Poble Sec (L3) and Espanya (L1, L3). L3 runs straight to Drassanes, Liceu and Catalunya, and from Espanya two stops to Sants station.
  • From the airport: the Aerobús stops at Plaça d'Espanya on its way to Plaça de Catalunya. Metro L9 Sud from the airport connects with L1 at Torrassa for Espanya.
  • To the port: lower Poble Sec is close to the ferry terminals and a walk from the Columbus monument. See our cruise port guide.
